Most careful readers—and all Fountain Powerboats fans—learned from a recent speedonthewater.com story that the company is offering its new 42 Lightning with a choice of left-hand (per Fountain tradition) or right-hand throttles and shifters. As it turns out, that’s not just a first for the Washington, N.C., high-performance center console and sportboat builder. It’s a first for Livorsi Marine, the manufacturer of the controls.

And it only took 30-plus years to happen, as the Grayslake, Ill., parts outfit celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018. Livorsi Marine’s John Wendt worked closely with the Fountain team to make the option a reality.
“This is the first time in history Fountain has offered left- or right-hand controls, and they went with our Quick Response Digital Throttle and Shift controls,” said Mike Livorsi, the founder of the venerable high-performance marine products company that made its early name on instruments and throttle-and-shifter units.
Powered by Mercury Racing 1350/1100 engines and going to Greg Knutson of Portland, Ore., sometime this summer, the 42-footer boasts several Livorsi products. They include Vantage View CAN Bus gauges, LED-position drive- and tab-trim and stepped 1150 trim tabs.
Said Livorsi, who has supplied instruments and controls to Fountain for much of his professional lifetime and owned five Fountain models himself, “Livorsi Marine is honored to be part of the prestigious new 42 Lightning build.”
