Between American Ethanol’s best-overall 217-mph top speed, the induction of the barrier-breaking designer and founder of Mystic Powerboats, John Cosker, and the late talented Powerboat magazine photographer—our friend, Tom Newby—into the Bob Morgan Memorial Hall of Fame, and the loss of one of the most cherished members of the MTI family, Richie Prince and his friend Brad Dunphy, last month’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri was full of emotions.

It also was chock-full of potential stories as is easy to see from the content in the latest edition of Speed On The Water Magazine, which can be downloaded for free here. Of course there’s seven pages of highlights and fantastic images from Pete Boden, Speedonthewater.com’s chief photographer, not to mention three pages on Slug Hefner’s latest Dirty Duck, a 50-foot Mystic catamaran that was delivered during Shootout week. And yes, Hefner also nabbed behind-the-wheel duties as he joined Cosker, American Ethanol’s throttleman, for the Top Gun-winning 217-mph run—talk about a great week.

Jake Nossaman’s week wasn’t bad either as he took delivery of his new 48-foot MTI to complement his 38-foot Statement center console he picked up earlier in the summer. Speedonthewater.com went along for the boat’s maiden voyage and witnessed its fine display at the Shootout on the Strip presented by Waves and Wheels, a company that had a hand in the Statement’s over-the-top entertainment system. You can also read about the focus of one competitor who was missed at this year’s Shootout—Team Gone Again’s Kenny Mungle. Mungle and his teammate Michael Lee Lockwood are looking to finish their first offshore racing strong and will return in 2017 with some new goals with the fans in mind—it’s always for the fans.

And while we brought you an exclusive story on MTI’s first 340X catamaran the day it debuted at the Shootout on the Strip (read it here), the cover story on the new 34-footer, which is powered by Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines digs a little deeper with additional photos and information.

It pains us to say this, but we’re closing our second-straight issue with a memorial page, this time to Prince and Dunphy. May they rest in peace. Our condolences go out to their family and friends.
