Just one hour after the organizers of Lake Champlain Poker Run opened registration today at noon, half of the 75 slots available for the fourth annual Burlington, Vt., event were taken. Such is the growing popularity of the August 19-20 event on the 100-plus-mile-long body of water, which extends well into Canada.
Well on its way to being sold out, the Lake Champlain Poker Run is among the coolest—and hottest—go-fast boating events in the Northeast. Photo from the 2021 Lake Champlain Poker Run by Tim Sharkey copyright Sharkey Images.
“We’re having a great result so far—we’re about half sold-old in the first hour,” said Brian Hoar, one of the event’s founders and organizers. “We are shooting for 75 boats again this year as we are kind of capped off at the number with the Burlington Harbor Marina dock space. It will be very similar to last year’s run, though I think we will be including an unofficial fun run on Friday. We’ve changed up the course a just a little bit for the actual run on Saturday.”
Proceeds from the event will go to Camp Ta Kum Ta, an outdoor experience for children affected by cancer and their families. In 2021, the run raised $32,000 for the charity.
“We have great support from downtown Burlington and the Burlington Harbor Marina, and we have some group rates on hotels,” said Hoar. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
