Kuttawa Cannonball Run At 100 Boats And Counting

No one was more pleasantly surprised when the 2021 Kuttawa Cannonball Run reached 180 registered boats than Jeff Hoefling, Terry Martin and Stephen Miles, the organizers of the Kentucky-based event. But with current registration for the June 3-4 run on Barkley Lake and Lake Kentucky approaching 100 boats, much like it was last year with two weeks to go, the happening is on track to reach or even eclipse its own record.

But the gentlemen behind the happening are not necessarily counting on it, even though registration is still open.

Even if the upcoming Kuttawa Cannonball Run doesn’t set another participation record, the event is on track for another big turnout. Photos from the 2021 Kuttawa Cannonball Run by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

“I think we’re pretty close to where we were last year at this time,” said Hoefling. “We were talking the other day and I think we all agreed that last year was probably going to be our biggest year due to COVID. I think we’re on course to be about the same.

“Last year we had around 25 or 30 walk-up registrations,” he added. “And last time I checked, about 30 percent this year were new registrations.”

Among those first-timers will be South Florida’s Greg Harris and Yvonne Aleman, who are bringing their new Mad Props DCB Performance Boats M37R catamaran, just-married Justin and Melissa Snook who’ll run their 42-foot Fountain sportboat and their fellow Michiganders Yvette Kirsten of Michigan. The Kirstens are bringing Jet, their 46-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats catamaran painted by Stephen Miles Design in Owensboro, Ky.

Said Burton Kirsten, “It’s going to be a blast.”

With its own restaurant—dubbed HU-B’S—Kuttawa Harbor Marina is the ideal self-contained venue for the event.
