From spending time in some of the world’s most exotic go-fast boats to experiencing gorgeous waterways, this job has plenty of perks. But none of them top the people who Jason Johnson—my speedonthewater.com co-publisher—and I meet and the friends we make around the country and abroad. It’s not even close.
Yesterday, two of those friends, Jack Gladke and Cara Wormuth, were married near their home in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. And to make it official, they brought out their 2008 Donzi 38 ZRC dubbed Red Barron on Lake Keuka for a photo opp.
Minus a photo on their prized 38-footer, Jack and Cara Gladke’s marriage wouldn’t be official. Photo courtesy Kelly O’Hara.
We came to know the Gladkes several years ago through Jack, an avid Donzi fan and voracious speedonthewater.com reader who bought his 38-footer in June 2020. If a more humble, gracious gentleman is out there in the high-performance powerboat world we have yet to meet hm.
He’s also one smart dude and not one to miss the opportunity of a lifetime, which explained why he proposed to Cara, who we met for the first time at the annual Speedonthewater.com welcome party during the 2019 Miami International Boat Show. We were so taken with them as individuals and as a couple that we invited them to join us at a private dinner we hosted for our Mercury Racing friends the following year at the show.
We’ll see them again—OK, one of us will—at the Lake Champlain Poker Run in Vermont in August.
Until then, Jack and Cara Gladke, congratulations. We are honored, and lucky, to call you friends.
