The team at Jaguar Powerboats is throwing a 75-mph twist into the yacht segment with the unveiling of its 55 Special design. According to a press release from the High Point, N.C., company, the twin-hull center console catamaran is slated to be the first yacht powered by a pair of Mercury Marine Verado 600 outboard engines.
Jaguar Powerboats released a rendering of its new 55 Special, which the company is calling a luxury center console catamaran yacht.
Renderings and specifications for this luxurious new chapter in the custom boatbuilder’s history are going to be available next week (March 25–28) at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in slip number 1024.
The lines of the 55 Special are unlike anything Jaguar has previously designed. With a modern aesthetic, the yacht combines the boatbuilder’s thirst for innovation with its commitment to continuous improvement. The 55-foot hull, which is 11 feet, 11 inches wide, is more angular than previous Jaguar hulls, with bold chines and a dramatic reverse sheer. Drawing on its racing legacy, the steps generate lift to boost its top-speed performance, while strakes and running pads will ensure the boat’s sure-footedness and seakindly ride.
“Hull number one of the 55 Special is nearing completion and will soon be tested at Mercury’s Lake X facility,” said John Clarke, president of Jaguar Powerboats. “With the 600s, we’re expecting a top speed of 75 mph—in a boat that offers all the amenities and luxury one would expect in a world-class yacht.”
Under the 55 Special’s impressive 17-foot, 10-inch-long hardtop is seating for 10, comprised of six Llebroc helm chairs, twin lounges and two jumpseats. For entertainment purposes, Jaguar utilized the center console for a built-in bar with refrigerator, sink and bottle storage. In the cockpit is an icemaker and second refrigerator. On either side, transom doors make stepping onto the yacht effortless.
Below deck is pure opulence. Offering 75 inches of headroom, the full-length master cabin has a queen bed, hanging closet, sofa and television. The ensuite bathroom has a full shower, toilet and sink. There is a second head to port. Four massive yacht windows on each side illuminate the interior and offer striking views.
Jaguar Powerboats will have its innovative J43 cat in the water at Palm Beach, and the 55 Special luxury center console catamaran yacht will debut at the 2021 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 27–31).
