Jacksonville Powerboat P1 Race Draws Big Field

With nine teams competing for top honors, the Fourth Annual Powerboat P1 Jacksonville Grand Prix kicked off last Saturday. The North Florida event was the second contest of the 2017 U.S.-based series, which is presented by Mercury Racing.

Team Barbados (James Norvill/Christian Parsons-Young) took first place, followed by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater (Richie Webster/Trent Gaulin) in second and Frank and Al’s Pizza (Frank Silva/Tony Iannotta) in third. Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and Frank and Al’s Pizza were tied in points for the weekend and race officials had to go down to the timings to finalize the finish.

Nine teams competed last weekend in the second race of the 2017 Powerboat P1 season.

The hometown favorite Visit Jacksonville team endured its second loss of the season as In the St.Cloud, Fla., season-opener, the team was disqualified. Leading in the final race of the day in Jacksonville—having won two out of five races with only three laps to go—they ran out of fuel, which bumped the team off the podium.

Four different teams won during the five-race weekend. Frank and Al’s Pizza claimed its firstever win in Race No. 5. The GEICO team’s Brian Maine also took his first win this weekend in Race No. 4.
