Shortly before dawn on a cloudy, late-April Monday morning, a convoy of vehicles began pulling into a small and mostly unfinished gated residential community on the shores of the Pamlico River in Washington, N.C. The fleet included a sample of generic rental cars and vans, as well as six trucks pulling six center-console fishing boats on trailers. The last vehicles to arrive were a truck pulling an Outerlimits SV 43 offshore raceboat, another hauler pulling the Snowy Mountain Brewery SV 29 Outerlimits raceboat and the Bristol, R.I., custom high-performance powerboat builder’s tractor-trailer.
In less than 30 minutes, the small launch ramp area went from isolated to occupied.
