Depending on the time of year, the Atlantic Ocean waters between South Florida and the Bahamas can be fair or foul. And much as you hope for fair you have to be ready for foul.
Minnesota’s Jesse and Stephanie Neumann know this from experience, which led them from their first Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats center console, a 39-footer, to their next one, a 45-footer. The Bahamas are a favorite destination for the Neumanns—they logged more than 3,000 miles exploring the chain of islands in their first Nor-Tech—with their daughters Natalya and Laila, now 11 and nine years old.

That trip lead them to their second and larger Nor-Tech dubbed Salty Wife in honor
of Stephanie’s mood during and after their first Bahamas adventure in their 390 model. The 450 was a big improvement for the family, and once again they logged thousands of miles exploring the islands.
Still, it wasn’t quite enough boat.
“We were at the Nor-Tech party on Duval Street in Key West in 2019, and Stephanie told (company founders) Trond Schou and Nils Johnsen she wanted a 50-foot center console,” said Jesse Neumann. “They said, ‘We have a 56.’ She said, ‘I don’t want a 56. I want a 50.’ The concept of the 50 was born that night.”
