Imagine introducing not just one but two over-the-top, big-buck custom high-performance powerboats—a 42-foot V-bottom and a 50-foot catamaran—at the start of the worst economic time in the history of the go-fast boat market. That’s exactly what Todd Werner and Nick Buis of Statement Marine based in St. Petersburg, Fla., did at the 2008 Miami International Boat Show with their 42′ Ultimate and 50′ Passion models.
From performance to build quality to features, both models were spectacular. No one argued about that.
But could their timing have been any worse? Probably not, yet that didn’t stop Statement’s founders from pushing forward, and that meant campaigning the 42-footer at almost every major go-fast boating event that year and continuing to go big with extravagant displays that eventually included a couple of Statement’s new SUV Series center consoles at the annual Miami event through 2013.
