While the SL 41 has been in the Outerlimits “Super Leggera” line-up of stand-up cockpit V-bottoms for several years, the first one with the Bristol, R.I., custom boat-builder’s lower-profile deck was unveiled two years ago at the Miami International Boat Show. Owned by Vinnie Diorio, who currently has a new Outerlimits SV 43 sit-down V-bottom in the final stages of construction, the 41-footer eventually caught the eye of Ed Dooge, a self-described “character” who lives in Harrison Township, Mich.
Dooge was looking to step up from his 33-foot Formula Boats sportboat. And after considering several options from a few custom and production go-fast boat builders he decided to do just that—in a big way—by ordering the second low-profile-deck SL 41 a little more than a year ago.
Like Diorio, Dooge ordered his dreamboat with a pair of Mercury Racing 700SCi engine. With that power package, the boat is set up to top out at 124 mph according to Dan Kleitz, the production manager for Outerlimits. During the its first sea trial in late April, the SL 41 reportedly ran 116 mph. Its owner was delighted.
