Off all the assets the Unlimited-class CMS offshore racing team brought to the 2015 Super Boat International World Championships in Key West, Fla., one stands out as the primary reason the two-boat campaign was able to make history by taking first- and second-place overall. And it wasn’t that the team members had more than 100 seasons of collective offshore racing experience or that their two impeccably prepared MTI catamarans with Mercury Racing 1650 engines performed flawlessly for all three races—or even team owner Bob Bull’s Marianas Trench-deep pockets
They were committed.
Commitment, the CMS team’s key asset in Key West, was the same one that propelled it to run roughshod over the Unlimited-class fleet, slim as it was, during SBI’s regular season. After coming within a broken prop shaft of the title in the final race of the 2014 SBI Key West Worlds, Bull and company weren’t about to let it happen again.
