In the national poker run scene, you’d be hard-pressed to name a better-known performance boat owner than Bill Pyburn Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. OK, maybe you could come up with a handful of names, but the list would be very short.
Still, while Pyburn, who has owned the often-photographed 388 Skater Powerboats Pure Platinum catamaran from Douglas Marine in Michigan since 2008 and been a regular at poker runs across the country ever since, may be someone lots of people know, many of us have never really had the chance to converse with the real estate developer as he can appear unapproachable.
That’s why speedonthewater.com asked the Jacksonville native for an extensive interview to get to know the University of Florida graduate and diehard Gators fan and find out how he became the guy behind the highly anticipated Pure Platinum 388 Skater that is expected to debut at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show. Powered by a pair of 1,950-hp, fuel-injected Whipple-supercharged engines from Goodwin Competition that run on pump gas, the 38-foot catamaran is 100-percent custom. From the interior and the deck to the dash and the entertainment system, it was all hand-picked by Pyburn, who said the boat most likely is not his last.
