Two thoughts occurred to me as Cigarette Racing Team’s Skip Braver and Bud Lorow, several honored guests and I skipped across the jumbled chop at 80-plus mph on the Cigarette-AMG 41 SD GT3 center console powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines during the 2016 Cigarette Owners Rendezvous at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. The first—hang on—was born of pure self-preservation as I was standing in the wind-tunnel between console and the port gunwale. (For the record, all such walkways are wind tunnels at 80-plus mph.)
The second—this is an unreal privilege—was more appreciative, for there we were, surrounded by Cigarette Racing Team V-bottoms from vintages 1977 through 2016. Hosted by Performance Boat Center for the second time in two years, the event attracted a record-setting 66 Cigarette models from as near the local town of Osage Beach and as far as northwest Florida, making it the largest collection of the renowned boat-builder’s products in anyplace at one time, ever.
