Inside SOTW Mag: Fifty and Fabulous—Cigarette 50 Marauder Profile

Around the same time Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG began their marketing partnership in 2007, the Opa-Locka, Fla., custom performance-boat and center console builder had recently completed its new 50 Marauder sportboat. So it’s probably no accident that half of Cigarette’s collaborations with the luxury sports automobile manufacturer have involved the vaunted 50-footer. It is, after all, a mighty big—the biggest in the Cigarette line—and beautiful canvas.

The 50 Marauder is a rare boat. No sane person will argue otherwise. While Skip Braver, the owner and chief executive officer of Cigarette, doesn’t disclose sales figures company it’s safe to say that a handful have been built in the past seven or eight years. A few have stayed in the United States and a few have gone to Europe and the Middle East.

“We’ve done well with it,” said Braver.

Without question, cost is a barrier to entry with any new 50 Marauder, which will go out Cigarette Racing Team’s factory doors with no less than Mercury Racing 1350 engines. If you don’t have at least $1 million to spend, you should look elsewhere. That kind of price tag is its own buyer filtration system, and the main reason you don’t tend to find 50 Marauders in stock. Powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350s, the 2016 model that was ordered by Performance Boat Center and is currently for sale at the full-service dealership’s Osage Beach, Mo., facility is—like the 50 Marauder itself—a rarity.

“I’ve never owned one,” said Braver. “But I’m lucky. I get to ride in them now and then.”
