Forget machines—motorsports really aren’t about machines. They’re about people with high-octane hearts and supercharged souls. And while those folks do appreciate pushing the limits in their scary fast vehicles, what they really appreciate is life lived at velocity. It doesn’t matter how you get there, once you’re a speed lover you’re always a speed lover.
Take Lieutenant Colonel Graeme Davis, the military attaché at the British Embassy in Qatar, who was parked a couple of seats down from me in the VIP stands on the final day of racing during the inaugural Qatar Cup in Doha, the country’s capital city. Before entering politics, Davis flew jet fighters for the British military.
