Desert Storm Poker Run Opens Registration, Changes Host Location

With registration for one of the country's most popular poker runs—the Desert Storm Poker Run (April 18-22) in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.—opening yesterday and several changes being implemented this year, including bringing the event back into April and moving host locations, speedonthewater.com caught up with Storm Productions' Christina Crane to get the rundown of what's happening with the longstanding event.

DCB, Eliminator, Nordic and More Ready for Opening Day of the L.A. Boat Show in Pomona

With the doors to the 62nd annual Los Angeles Boat Show opening at noon today, those interested in performance boats have plenty of eye candy to take in at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. Taking place at the popular Fairplex, which is pretty convenient to get to from most areas of Southern California, for the second year in a row, the 2018 L.A. Boat Show features its High-Performance Hall where several of the Southland and Lake Havasu City, Ariz.-based manufacturers are exhibiting their latest models.

DCB Performance Boats has a variety of catamarans, including an M28, M31, M35 and M44, on display at this week's L.A. Boat Show.

Bruggemann Joining Speedonthewater.com Test Team

A household name in the high-performance powerboat world, Grant Bruggemann of Grant’s Signature Racing in Bradenton, Fla., will be joining industry luminaries Bob Teague of Teague Custom Marine and John Tomlinson of TNT Custom Marine on the speedothewater.com test team. While the daily high-performance powerboating news site, which also publishes a weekly newsletter, bi-monthly digital magazine and a collectible annual Year In Review print magazine, does not regularly include formal “boat reviews” in its coverage, speedonthewater.com does—whenever possible—bring in experts for hands-on evaluations for features on new and existing catamarans, V-bottoms and center consoles.

Fountain Kilo Speed Record Attempt Postponed

Originally slated for Feb. 2-4, the American Power Boat Association/Union International Motonautique-sanctioned V-bottom kilometer record attempt set up by Fountain Powerboats in Washington, N.C., for its purpose-built 40-foot canopied V-bottom powered by 1,900-hp Sterling Performance engines has been postponed. The news was announced in a press release from Iconic Marine Group, the parent company of Fountain, Donzi and Baja, this afternoon.

Mercury Marine Canada Reaches Employee Safety Milestone

Mercury Marine Canada in Milton, Ontario, is celebrating a significant achievement in employee safety—one million hours of no lost time injury. Mercury’s headquarters in Canada, the Milton facility has been injury-free since 2010, according to a press release from its Fond du Lac, Wis., parent company.

Performance Boat Center To Return As Primary Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Sponsor

For the fifth year in a row, Performance Boat Center of Osage Beach, Mo., is stepping up to sponsor the annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Aug. 22-26, which is celebrating its 30th anniversay this year. According to Brett Manire, who co-owns the full-service powerboat dealership with Mark Waddington, the sponsorship deal was finalized this morning.

More Big Builds Coming From Skater

While small outboard engine-powered sport catamarans remain an integral part of Skater Powerboats’ current business, the Douglas, Mich.-based custom high-performance cat and V-bottom builder is “alive and well” with bigger-model builds according to national sales manager Tony Cutsuries. The 12 boats currently under construction at the Skater facility include 368, 388 and 438 catamaran models. There’s even a 46-footer in the mix.
