In The Lead Video Series Flashback: Justin Wagner Of Waves And Wheels

No high-performance marine reporter has devoted more time and energy to covering the go-fast boating scene at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri than speedonthewater.com co-publisher Jason Johnson. Johnson’s passion for the waterway is only surpassed by his fondness for the folks who call the area home. His commitment runs deep and has for years—that’s why he’s in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Bob Morgan Memorial Hall of Fame.

A hard-working man with a kind and gentle soul, Justin Wagner—captured here with Roxy—is the driving force behind Waves And Wheels.

So when Johnson started talking about this extraordinary marine stereo guy at the lake named Justin Wagner long ago, I listened. Since then, I’ve been honored to get to know the talented and joyful man behind Waves and Wheels, which has expanded its services well beyond custom-designed stereo installations to entire powerboat restorations housed in an expansive waterfront location called The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels.

Wagner, who moved to the lake with his then-pregnant wife, Cicely, and had $300 in his pocket, even has his own component line called Bluave Marine Audio.

Interior renovations and fabrication. Total exterior restorations. Paint and fiberglass repair. The list of Waves and Wheels services beyond custom sound systems is extensive.

Throughout the growth of the company Wagner’s wife, Cicely, has been his closest advisor.

“She is my biggest supporter and she is my biggest critic,” Wagner says in the video. “There are a lot of things at Waves and Wheels that are way beyond where they would have been without her support and constructive criticism.”

Impressive as his accomplishments are, Wagner’s humility and gratitude are that much more so. That made him a perfect choice as the subject of our 2021 “In The Lead” documentary-style video series, now in its second season and hosted on the Speed On The Water YouTube channel.

“It really makes me feel awesome seeing that I’ve got guys who are making a great living and they’re enjoying their life and I can see them grow with the company every year,” he says near the end of the nine-minute video. “The guys that we have I cannot thank enough. I mean, they’re tried and true. They’re dedicated. They’re here for the long haul.

“Owning a business for 20 years, man, it’s not all peaches and cream,” he adds. “But I love what I do and I’m not going to stop growing.”

Sounds like someone you’d like to get know better and maybe do business with? Watch the video.

For Waves and Wheels principal Justin Wagner, teammates are family.
