Image of the Week: White Lightning at Lake of the Ozarks

Given the elaborate color schemes on so many high-end go-fast powerboats, a plain white catamaran or V-bottom tends to stand out. But speed on the water isn’t about photosensitive paints or flashy graphics. It’s about hull efficiency, setup choices and what’s under the hatch. All three, plus driver skill, will combine this coming weekend at the annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri.

Dressed in plain white, this Skater 388 catamaran managed to capture plenty of attention at last year's Lake of the Ozarks Shootout thanks to its record-setting 177-mph run. Photo courtesy/copyright Jay Nichols/Naples Image.

Photographer Jay Nichols caught this Skater Powerboats 388 catamaran with twin Smith Power turbocharged engines under the hatch and owner/driver Dennis Pool and throttleman Brad Smith in the cockpit on their way to a 177-mph class victory during last year’s Shootout. And thanks to its outstanding run, even without much color on its hull or deck, this lightning-fast, open-cockpit catamaran was hard to miss.
