Image of the Week: Sweeping Into The New Year

Among the many qualities Pete Boden brings to his role as speedonthewater.com’s chief photographer is that he’s proactive by nature. When weather, nature’s ultimate variable, always plays a role in your work—as it does in powerboat photography—that’s a great quality to have.

Case in point, yesterday’s photo shoot in Sarasota, Fla., in advance of today’s Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run. (Look forspeedonthewater.com coverage of the event later today.) With today’s weather in the area correctly forecasted to be poor, Boden organized a helicopter photo shoot for 13 or 14 boats yesterday, when conditions were flawless.

In short, on the final day of 2017 Boden ended up with some of his finest images of the year—simply because he thought ahead, made a decision and took charge. He also confirmed what Jason Johnson, my speedonthewater.com co-publisher, have known for a long time.

We have the right guy.

Happy New Year to all.
