Image Of The Week: Starting Them Young

The tip of the 450R Factory Stock-class spear, Taylor Scism of TS Motorsports is all of 26 years old. And yet she is the “senior” representative of a class youth-movement that includes 23-year-old Nick Imprescia and 22-year-old Ian Morgan of the 151 Express team, 18-year-old Logan Adan of Doug Wright Powerboats/Waves and Wheels and 16-year-old Caleb Mead of Mead Family Racing.

Young racers in training, Vincenzo Diorio and Hudson Pritchard already have plenty of exposure to Super Cat-class offshore racing.

Of course, offshore racing youth’s movement isn’t limited to the 450R Factory Stock ranks. Rookie Bracket 700-class racer Owen Buis is 15 years old, as is his friend and fellow Bracket 700-class competitor, Dalton Palestra.

That practically makes experienced Bracket 700 racers Chase and Jax Muller, ages 22 and 20, the grizzled veterans. What’s more, like their famous throttleman-father Jay Muller of WHM Motorsports, the Muller brothers run in the Super Cat category.

Taking a page from the Muller manual of child-rearing, Super Cat team owner/throttleman Vinnie Diorio of Rollin/SV Offshore Racing recently let his five-year-old son, Vincenzo, “behind the wheel” of his 39-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats catamaran. As you can see from the image above, Hudson Pritchard, the three-year-old son of SV Offshore Racing team collaborator Kyle Pritchard, also got into the act.

SV Offshore Racing’s biggest fans, Hudson Pritchard (left) and Vincenzo Diorio were all smiles in the Outerlimits cat.

Of course, both kids are more than a decade away from being allowed to even compete in offshore powerboat racing. But like all big dreams, theirs have to start somewhere.

And a Super Cat cockpit is as good a place as any.
