Image of the Week: Sitting Still in Jacksonville

A little more than a week away, the annual Jacksonville River Rally Charity Poker Run is the stuff of legend when it comes to attracting serious go-fast boats. With two generations of Pure Platinum Skater Powerboats 388 catamarans—both commissioned by Jacksonville, Fla., local and event co-organizer Bill Pyburn Jr.—just for openers and another 50-something high-quality go-fast cats and V-bottoms in the fleet, the June 4-6 event promises to be another performance-boat showcase.

Though the boats will be different, this scene is sure to repeat itself at the upcoming Jacksonville River Rally Charity Poker Run. Photo courtesy/copyright Jay Nichols/Naples Image (click image to enlarge).

Looking through photographer Jay Nichols’ Flickr gallery from the event in 2011, we found lots of memorable images of powerboats rocketing down the St. Johns River. But the photo that stuck out for us (the image above) captured three pretty high-quality catamarans just sitting still.

That’s a scene we never tire of seeing—and one that’s sure to repeat itself in Jacksonville this year.
