Going two for two in its first two races of the 2015 season, Team AMSOIL is rolling. And while we confess to being biased as Bob Teague, the throttleman of the 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran, is a longtime friend and colleague—and a current contributor to Speed On The Water digital magazine—we wouldn’t bet against him and his veteran driver, Paul Whittier, heading into this weekend’s Super Boat International race in Michigan City, Ind.
If AMSOIL takes first place in Michigan City as it did last weekend at the Offshore Powerboat Association race on the St. Clair River, it will be the team’s third win in as many races. Photo courtesy/copyright Pete Boden/Shoot 2 Thrill Pix (click image to enlarge).
That Teague and Whittier run the smallest catamaran in SBI’s Superboat-class fleet makes winning tougher for Team AMSOIL in rough water—and Lake Michigan is more than capable of dishing out the rough stuff. Although defending 2014 National Champion STIHL is out for the Michigan City race and defending 2014 World Champion Broadco appears to be out for the season, Teague and Whittier will have to prevail over WHM Motorsports, Sailor Jerry-Autonation and Cleveland Construction to win its third race in a row. That’s a tall order to be sure.
But we still wouldn’t bet against them.
