Considering the boat was an attention-getter (read the story) at the first event Ralph and Daniel Munyan attended with the very first 34 XCS sport catamaran from Pilini Marine, it was no surprise that the 34-footer powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines took home the President’s Choice Award for Best Catamaran (see image below, click to enlarge) at last weekend’s Florida Powerboat Club Tampa Bay Poker Run.

While the event’s 40-plus-boat fleet was impressive all around (read about it and see more images here), the new Pilini cat definitely had a lot of eyeballs on it at the host location, the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Tampa, Fla., as well as at the lunch stops. Such was the case three weeks ago when the boat made its debut at the Fort Myers Offshore Burnt Store Fun Run in Punta Gorda, Fla.
Ralph’s son, Daniel, said the boat ran flawlessly all weekend and that he and his good friend, Randy “RJ” Schwab, had a blast running with the club on Friday and Saturday. They also enjoyed checking out all of the other outstanding hardware.
“It was cool to see the big cats with big power next to all these awesome new outboard cats from some of the same builders like MTI and Skater,” Daniel said, adding that his uncle and cousin—Bill and Jack Munyan—own a 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 850 engines. “My friend RJ—he and I fish marlin tournaments together—was learning to run the wheel at the event and he did a great job. We had the boat running really well there.”
The 34-year-old Munyan said he and his dad are likely to attend the FPC Fort Myers Poker Run (April 19-22) in Fort Myers, as well as the club’s Emerald Coast Poker Run (August 15-19) in Destin and a few other events to be determined this summer.
