Image Of The Week: Fort Myers Offshore Hits The Beach

With rain that didn’t materialize in the weekend weather forecast—that’s why they’re called forecasts—undeterred supporters of the western Florida-based, nonprofit Fort Myers Offshore club headed out for their annual Cayo Costa Beach fun run and cookout last Saturday. And despite less-than-photogenic conditions, club member Craig B. Eastwood caught a cool overhead shot using a drone-camera.

Always a club favorite according to FMO board member Meghan Brousseau, the Cayo Costa event attracted more than 20 high-performance catamarans, V-bottom sportboats and center consoles from Baja, Cigarette, Fountain, Mystic, Nor-Tech, Outerlimits and more.

“Despite the cloudy day, it was a great run from Sanibel Island up the Intracoastal Waterway to the beach, which is located north of Captiva Island,” said Brousseau. “People brought tents, chairs, umbrellas, barbeques and lots and lots of food.

“Team Stooges from Canada, which runs a 39-foot Nor-Tech, brought their gas-powered margarita machine and set up the bar,” she added. “That was a big hit.”

The club’s final event of the season—a run to the famed Vinoy hotel in St. Petersburg—is set for April 20-22.
