Please pardon the silly word-play headline. But given this image from speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden—and that he and speedonthewater.com co-publisher Jason Johnson are in Boyne City, Mich., to cover this weekend’s 15th annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run in the wilds of Northern Michigan—I couldn’t resist. And this is just one section of the tiny, but packed, Boyne City Marina.

While the weather hasn’t been ideal for this weekend’s Boyne City happening, that hasn’t stopped dulled the enthusiasm of Boden and Johnson, much less the devoted participants in the event. And between the waterways it travels, the unspoiled natural environment adajcent to them and idyllic Boyne City itself—plus all the people involved—Boyne Thunder remains my hands-down favorite poker run, period.
The run itself is set for tomorrow, and the weather forecast is better. Regardless, the 2018 Boyne Thunder Poker Run is sure to be a hit. And Boden and Johnson will bring home the story.
