After shooting for almost a week in Missouri covering the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and Super Cat Fest (complete coverage here), photographer Pete Boden of Shoot 2 Thrill Pix, got in his RV last Monday morning and drove to Michigan in preparation to capture the action of the West Michigan Offshore Labor Day Weekend Fun Run on Saturday.

During the week, Boden visited Shogren Performance Marine, CK Motorsports, Skater Powerboats and more. Come Saturday, one would think he’d be a bit worn down and ready to put the camera down. But that was obviously not the case when you look at the Image of the Week above that he captured of DeWain DeCaire of Grand Haven in his Fountain Powerboats 42 Lightning during the club’s fun run.
Boden, who was shooting from Craig Ellis’ 48 Sunseeker, timed the shot perfectly as Decair crossed over the 48-footer’s wake in his V-bottom that was recently painted by one of the WMO sponsors, T&D Custom Painting in Zeeland, Mich.
According to Chris Dekker, a founding member of the club that was started in April, the Labor Day Weekend Fun Run had more than 20 boats in attendance despite less-than-ideal weather. Because of some rough conditions in the forecast, Dekker said the club opted to change the route and head north from Holland to Grand Haven (instead of south to South Haven). On the return trip, the club stopped at Pigeon Lake in Port Sheldon for a raft-up then returned to Holland.
“The worst part is that the weather turned out to be pretty nice so I think we lost a good 10 boats that probably would have had a great time,” said Dekker, who said WMO already has more than 100 members, a number he didn’t expect to reach in the club’s first year. “Either way, everyone had a good time, and everyone was safe.”
Speaking of safe, Boden made it home safely to Florida today, and we’re guessing he’s ready to put the camera down now.
