Image Of The Week: A Different Victory

Surely veteran offshore racer Gary Ballough would have preferred to be racing in Key West, Fla., a couple of months back. It’s quite clear the Boca Raton, Fla.-based performance boater is most comfortable when he’s working on and testing his Super Stock-class raceboat—there aren’t many competitors who take the sport as serious as Ballough does or many who have raced in as many places around the world as he has.

Still, Key West is his home away from home so the owner of the GB Racing Team wasn’t going to miss a trip to the Southernmost city in the country, which is why he decided to run his latest pleasure boat, a 32-foot Victory Team catamaran he took delivery of last summer, to Key West during the Florida Powerboat Club’s 28th annual Key West Poker Run.

Powered by twin Mercury Racing 300R outboard engines and set up similarly to his canopied 32-foot Victory Team raceboat that he’s owned since 2019, Ballough’s 32-foot pleasure cat was completely up to the task of the 200-plus-mile run. And, as you can see based on the image of the all-white cat above, it looked good in the process.

“For the first time in 30-plus years, I was able to go by boat to the Keys since we didn’t have a race,” Ballough said in an email a few weeks after the mid-November event. “I took my best buddy and we left Boca at 7 a.m. and got to Key West in four hours. It was the best run ever.”
