So far so good for the inaugural 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run in Clayton, N.Y. The first leg of the run was a success following a couple of days of pre-party fun leading up to the 120-mile poker run that ran from Clayton to Ogdensburg and back this morning.

Following today’s lunch at Frink Memorial Park in Clayton, the sold-out 70-boat fleet is heading to Cape Vincent now and returning to the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel for the conclusion and post-run party.

From a boat variety standpoint, the event has a little of everything represented. Catamarans from the likes of MTI, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Skater Powerboats and Spectre Powerboats joined V-bottoms from Cigarette Racing Team, Baja Marine, Donzi Marine, Formula Boats, Fountain Powerboats, Hustler Powerboats, Nor-Tech, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats and Sunsation Boats. And of course center consoles from Nor-Tech, MTI and more showed up for the poker run.

All of the comments I’ve heard so far have been positive, including a glowing review from MTI’s Tim Gallagher, who was riding in Ken Lalonde’s 48-foot MTI catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines.

“The guys behind this event have done a remarkable job for a first-year poker run,” Gallagher said. “The venue is great and the people are cool. I can see this event becoming pretty popular and selling out right away.”
