Helmkamp’s Highlights From The Desert Storm Street Party

Late last night while many people in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., were ordering another round of drinks at one of the bars on McCulloch Blvd. or hitting In-n-Out, Del Taco or Filiberto’s for a “fourth meal,” photographer Jeff Helmkamp was hard at work in his hotel room editing photos from Thursday’s Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party—arguably the coolest on-land performance boat showcase in the country.

Helmkamp was tasked with the job of sending some of his best work from the day for this story, and what he came up with was a nice variety of highlights from the Street Party as you can see in the slideshow below. Far from his best work—he said he prefers to shoot “boats in action” rather than on pavement—Helmkamp managed to pass along an excellent mix of boats without too many on-lookers getting in the way of his images.

And that was not easy to do considering how busy it was for the nearly-one-mile-long festival featuring boats, massive tow rigs, vendors and more lined up on both sides of the street.

Check out the slideshow above for several more cool photos from Helmkamp.

Of course Helmkamp’s highlights, which include the spanking new Adrenaline Powerboats 47 ZRX, a handful of models (like the new M33R) from DCB Performance Boats, the new Eliminator Boats 22 Daytona as well as several boats from MTI and Wright Performance Powerboats, turned out to be a fun way to report on what is essentially a gigantic party rather than quoting people to find out what they liked about the event.

That doesn’t mean you have to agree with him. In fact, if you were in Havasu yesterday and have your own list of highlights, feel free to share them in the comments below.
