Owners of sportboats with out-of-warranty 525EFI engines from Mercury Racing will have aftermarket turbocharging kit options thanks to Hardin Marine. According to a press release from Hardin, which offers an array of sportboat parts, the kits were developed, “By using leading OEM (original equipment manufacturer) German turbocharging technology and matching that with the very best marine and aerospace turbo engineering designers.”

The 525 Kits will be offered in 775-hp Stage I and 850-hp Stage II packages. They will include marine industry’s first, according to the release, aftermarket stainless-steel water-jacketed bypass integrated turbochargig housing, available in both manual and electronic horsepower versions. The system features a unique multi-chamber water-cooled exhaust header system that maintains engine width within original specifications. Induction will be directed through a cupronickel and stainless-steel intercooler combined with OEM- styled carbon fiber inlets.

Price for the kits, the first in a series of marine engine turbocharging packages to come, had not been released when this story went live. Visitors to the 2012 Miami International Boat Show can check it out at the Hardin exhibit, booth No. 3069.
