Gratton Lawsuit Settled

The wrongful death lawsuit brought on behalf of offshore racer Joey Gratton by his widow, Priscilla Gratton, against Super Boat International, John Carbonell, Donald DiPetrillo and other defendants has been settled. A source inside Courtroom View Network confirmed that the sides had reached a settlement agreement, the terms and amount of which have not been released, this morning in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Gratton died after his raceboat overturned during the 2011 Super Boat International World Championships in Key West, Fla. The jury trial of the case began last week and was expected to last two more weeks. The suit alleged that the defendants failed to ensure properly trained rescue divers were able to quickly reach Gratton’s boat and delayed rescue efforts by not immediately stopping the race after the accident.
