With good weather and friendly conditions on Lake Tohopekaliga, yesterday’s second round of the P1 SuperStock USA championship series in St. Cloud, Fla., featured some tight competition across the five heat races.

In the end, the “rookie” team of Craig Wilson and William Enriquez in the GEICO boat finished atop the podium, followed by Team Barbados’ James Norvill and Christian Young in second place and Visit Jacksonville’s George Ivey and Cynthia Bellfatto in third.
Wilson, who finished seventh overall at the season-opener in Tavares, Fla., said he and Enriquez, who proved to be an excellent navigator and spotter in his first boat race, combined for first places in two heats, second in one and third in another before running out of fuel 200 yards from the finish in the last race.

“The racing this weekend was some of the best I’ve been involved with in a long time,” said Wilson, a veteran offshore racer with multiple world titles. “I have to admit, when our team decided to do this, I thought it might be a little boring. I was way off—this class has some of the most competitive and toughest racing I’ve seen.
“We were nine wide going into turn one, and it wasn’t just deck-to-deck racing for the first lap, for many of the teams we were deck-to-deck for all of the races,” he continued. “I think William was terrified for the first lap of the first race, but after that he got used to it. This type of racing really keeps you sharp—it’s crazy how much fun it is.”
The next stop for the Superstock boats is June 4 in Jacksonville, Fla., which is the same weekend as the Jacksonville River Rally Fun Run, then it’s on to Sarasota, Fla., on July 3.
