No couple we’re aware of—at least in the high-performance powerboating community—rang in the New Year with more style than Chris and Quinn LaMorte. First, on New Year’s Eve, they got married near their home in New Jersey. Second, they caught the first flight out on New Year’s Day to make it to Sarasota, Fla., in time to join the fifth annual Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run—organized by their friend Ryan Beckley—in their 36-foot Skater catamaran. (Beckley’s wife, Debbie, actually traveled to New Jersey for the wedding.) Third, when Beckley’s own 24-foot Skater cat broke down just after the run started, the newlyweds hosted the Beckley Bunch on their 36-footer for the day.

But wait, the plot thickens. Today, photographer Pete Boden of Shoot 2 Thrill Pix spent most of the morning shooting the LaMortes on their catamaran in Sarasota. (They had planned to shoot yesterday, but the weather didn’t cooperate.) Boden never saw himself in the pre- or post-wedding photography game, but in the past two years it appears to have come with the territory of making friends within the go-fast boating community.

“Boating and weddings, or photos after receptions, seem to be up and coming with Shoot 2 Thrill Pix,” he said. “Two years ago, I shot T.J. and Spring Bailey’s wedding in Key West (read the story). In 2015, I shot Cherie and Dave Reitzel’s wedding in Key West.

“It was sort of humorous,” he continued, then laughed. “Between shooting pictures of Dave and Cherie at the Pier House on Saturday, I was taking pictures of boats going by.”

Boden added that for his shoot with the LaMortes there were no such additional distractions. And given the sound coming from their Skater’s 700-hp Innovation Marine engines, there also was no need to tie anything noisy behind the boat.
