Gallery Of The Week: Hurricane Looking Awesome

With Thunder On Cocoa Beach, the American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., coming up next weekend, teams are getting pumped. Chief among them is the wild and crazy duo of driver Brit Lilly and throttleman Kevin Smith of the LSB/Hurricane of Awesomeness team who will run throughout the six-race series in the twin-engine Vee Extreme and single-engine Pro Stock V classes. (As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, freestyle motocross star Travis Pastrana will throttle in Cocoa Beach.)

Ready for its close-up next weekend in Cocoa Beach, the LSB/Hurricane of Awesomeness raceboat is set to take on the Vee Extreme fleet (click image to enlarge).

Lilly and Smith have been almost nonstop since buying the 40-foot Fountain Powerboats V-bottom they’ll run in the Vee Extreme class.

“I just noticed it’s a year to the day that we bought the damn boat,” Smith said, then laughed. “Not much has changed.”

Check out the slideshow above for more images of the Vee Extreme-class LSB/Hurricane of Awesomeness raceboat.

Smith was joking, of course. Inside and out, the 40-footer built in 2002 has gone through a massive and truly beautiful transformation, all of which was handled at the Lily Sport Boats shop in Arnold, Md. And thanks to a whole bunch of their friends, they transformed the tired old raceboat into a stunner dressed bright colors.

We’re sure you’ll agree. Just look at the photos.
