The docks outside of the Golden Nugget Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., looked like a Formula-exclusive boat show last weekend. That’s because the waterside hotel served as the host venue for the fourth annual Formula Boats Rendezvous—not to be confused with the upcoming sixth annual Birds on the Bay Formula Rendezvous Aug. 22-23—in the Garden State, which attracted more than 20 Formula models from the Decatur, Ind., company’s Sun Sport, Super Sport, Performance Cruiser and FAS3Tech lines.
“We had Formula boats from 30 to 48 feet, including a vintage 260 from 1989 and a CBR 350,” said Steve Castine, the chief organizer of event who’s also the owner/webmaster of the popular formulaboatsforum.com website.

Participants began arriving at the docks on Friday, and the arrivals continued through Saturday morning. No official “group run” was scheduled for Saturday, so most of the participants spent that day walking the docks and socializing with their fellow Formula owners. Saturday evening’s festivities included a buffet dinner sponsored by Formula Boats Northeast, a raffle for various prizes and an awards ceremony.
“The majority of the people who came knew each other, although we did have five or six newcomers,” said Castine. “Tom Glowinski, who organizes the Birds on the Bay Formula Rendezvous in August, participated and we’re encouraging everyone who came this weekend to support that event.
