Gallery Of The Week: Boyne Thunder Flights Of Fancy

With the fifteen annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run happening in Northern Michigan later this week, we thought this would be a great time to assemble a slideshow of some of our favorite images from the last year’s event. Of course, Lake Michigan being Lake Michigan, they all involve boats catching air.

Last year, the Boyne Thunder Poker Run delivered a slew of powerboat air-time images. What will this year bring? (Click image to enlarge.) Photos courtesy/copyright Pete Boden/Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden currently is on the road from Sarasota, Fla., to Boyne City. He’ll be joined there by speedonthewater.com co-publisher and executive editor Jason Johnson, who is heading to Chicago today with his family—the entire Johnson tribe will be in Boyne City later this week—to cover the event.

As for me, I get to enjoy it all from afar as an upcoming assignment takes me to Clayton, N.Y., with a few days in New York City prior, next week to cover the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run. But having covered Boyne Thunder in person last year—I spent a week in Boyne City—I couldn’t resist flight of fancy, so to speak, down air-memory lane.
