Casual. That will be the defining word for Super Cat Fest West which is scheduled for April 15-18. The inaugural Lake Havasu City, Ariz., event will use the same successful format—decidedly laidback—that Super Cat Fest founder Alvin Heathman has used to make his original Lake of the Ozarks happening, a celebration of the world’s finest high-performance catamarans and more in Central Missouri, an annual success.

For his West Coast event, Heathman has teamed up with Speedboat magazine as its official media sponsor and Todd Taylor, the publication’s chief photographer, of Joker’s Wild Productions. In addition to his longtime affiliation with the Speedboat crew, Taylor, who lives in Lake Havasu City, has years of experience producing powerboating events—primarily brand-specific owner regattas—on the Colorado River-fed waterway.
The event, as previously reported on speedonthewater.com, will be based out of the London Bridge Resort.
“Super Cat Fest West will be a loosely scheduled, casual event with suggested—but not mandatory—destination points on the water but not mandatory,” said Ray Lee, the co-publisher of Speedboat magazine. “Super Cat Fest West is working in conjunction with the Desert Storm Poker Run organizers to bridge two back-to-back Lake Havasu events, encouraging boaters to ‘Come for the Fest, stay for the Storm.’”
Here’s a quick look at the proposed schedule so far:
• Friday, April 16—Evening celebration at the London Bridge Resort, including a bikini fashion show, music and entertainment, as well as access to the display docks featuring catamarans from DCB Performance Boats, Eliminator Boats, MTI, Nordic Boats, Skater Powerboats and more.
Super Cat Fest West will be headquartered at the London Bridge Resort, which also is the host venue for Desert Storm.
• Saturday, April 17— Evening send-off celebration at the London Bridge Resort featuring entertainment by Havasu’s Boom Bandits and hosted by River Dave’s Place, a popular online go-fast boating community.
• Sunday, April 18—Free day on Lake Havasu.
Said Lee, “Registration and ticket sales information will be announced soon.”
