Early next month, the first Frisini Motorsports SCX 43 catamaran, which is owned by Dr. Gabe Jasper of Toms River, N.J., will be delivered to the company’s manufacturing facility in Fort Pierce, Fla., for the completion of its cabin interior. From there , the 43-footer powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines will head to TNT Custom Marine in Miami, where it will be outfitted with 5-inch stand-off boxes from Teague Custom Marine and tested with the new setup by TNT’s John Tomlinson.

“We’ve calculated the current prop slip at 18 to 20 percent, and we’re still running 152 mph,” said Jasper during a telephone interview today. “I talked to Johnny (Tomlinson, who did the first setup and testing of the 43-footer with Frisini Motorsports owner Tony Frisina) and he thinks the props aren’t getting clean water. So we’re adding the stand-off boxes. We’re hoping to get the slip down to 7 to 8 percent, and the top speed up to 170 mph.”

Jasper said that the interior needs to be finished before the cat is moved to TNT so that the it can be set up and balanced in its final form. At present, the cabin is “just raw fiberglass—there’s nothing down there,” he said.

“We have the whole month to get it ready for the Key West Poker Run in November,” said Jasper, who has put approximately 40 hours on the boat since taking delivery of it in late April at Desert Storm. “We’re really looking forward to that run. We just did the poker run at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we ran with the Phantom MTI and another 46-foot Skater with Sterling 1100s. It was rough out there, but we had no problem running with the Phantom boat, and we ran away from the 46 Skater.”
