Ordered during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October, the first Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engine-powered Fountain 38-foot center console reportedly is under construction. According to Johnny Walker of Baja Marine—the Washington, N.C., parent company of the Baja, Donzi and Fountain powerboat brands—the quad Verado 400R 38-footer is one of three Fountain center consoles that were ordered during the annual South Florida show. Each of the other angling-oriented models will be powered by triple 350-hp Verado outboards from Mercury Marine.
Fountain’s next 38-foot center console will be powered by quad 400-hp outboard engines.
“It’s our goal to get Fountain back to producing the world’s fastest V-bottom center console fishing boat,” said Walker.
In addition to the three Fountain models sold during the Fort Lauderdale event, Walker said the company took orders for several Donzi 22’ Classic sportboats. He added that the factory currently is a building “a selection of Baja models in the 23- to 26-foot range,” as well as a Baja 30’ Outlaw sportboat.
“Things are going pretty well,” he said. “Sales at the high-performance end are still pretty flat, but the center consoles are coming back strong.”
