Fort Myers Offshore Draws Largest Fleet In Club History

Yesterday’s fleet of 74-boats at the Fort Myers Offshore New Year’s Day Fun Run wasn’t just an outstanding turnout for the event, it was the largest field of high-performance catamarans, V-bottoms and center consoles gathered in the western Florida-based club’s 12-plus-year history. That many of the participants also are in town for Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run up the coast tomorrow in Sarasota  didn’t make the turnout any less impressive.

“With 74 registered captains, we had the largest-ever turnout for an FMO event,” said Eric Belisle, the president of the nonprofit, college scholarship fundraising organization.. “The 50/50 draw, which collected, $2,500, also was a top-seller and the winner, Alan Doherty, is a great supporter of the club.”

Several FMO sponsors including Tim Gallaher from Marine Technology, Inc., Raymond Roberts of Nor-Tech dealer Double R Performance, Terry Sobo of Deep Impact Boats and Manny Oses of Renegade Boats also participated in the run, which traveled to CJ’s On The Bay on Marco Island for lunch.

“It’s always great when the manufacturer representatives show up,” said Belisle.

The New Years Fun Run was the fourth event of the club’s 2017/2018 season.
