Recognizing pent-up demand for organized go-fast boating action in their area, particularly in light of the cancelled second-year Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach powerboat race, organizers in the Southwest Florida city are launching a new event. Set for October 9-10—the dates originally reserved for the races—the Roar Offshore Fun will open registration early next week.

Lead organizer Tim Hill officially announced the event this morning. Fort Myers-based Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boat has stepped up as the title sponsor. Nor-Tech will publicly showcase its new 460 Flyer for the first time during the event.
“We are going to open registration and publish details on the Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach website in a few days,” said Hill. “Our fun run will follow true a poker-run format with organized stops.”
The event will be open to high-performance powerboats of all kinds, including raceboats. To that end, Hill said he will arrange storage for any offshore racing teams that want to leave their boats in Fort Myers Beach in advance of the Offshore Powerboat Association World Championships, which are schedule for November 19-22 in Englewood Beach, Fla.
Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden will be on scene, via helicopter, to capture all the action.
Current additional sponsors include Hi-Def Printing, the Westin Cape Coral Resort and Creative Web Builders. Said Hill, “Our benefitting charity will be the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club.”
