Based in Decatur, Ind., Formula Boats has wasted no time getting on board with the outboard engine power trend for its Crossover sportboat series. The latest offering, which officially will be unveiled at the Newport Boat Show Sept. 13-16 in Rhode Island is called the 400 Super Sport Crossover and joins the 330 and 350 CBR models, as well as the 400 and 430 SSC and 430 ASC offerings in the Crossover fleet family.
With the new 400 SSC, there are now five members of the company’s Crossover series family.
Measuring the 40 feet long with a 12-foot beam, the 25,000-pound boat will be available with either quad Mercury Marine Verado 300 (standard power) or quad Verado 350 (upgraded power) outboard engines. (Both propulsion packages come standard with Mercury’s Joystick piloting system.) Per the Super Sport series, the boat the 400 SSC incorporates FAS3Tech multi-step hull technology and a molded structural grid stringer system.
According to a press release from the company, the 400 SSC has nearly 37 linear feet of flowing cockpit space that utilizes the trademarked Formula Crossover SmartZone concept, “creating separate areas for a variety of activities while encouraging connections among guests.” Cabin accommodations offer closed bow amenities that include a convertible dinette/sleeping berth plus aft stateroom bed, private head compartment and entertainment galley with sink and microwave.
“The 400’s SmartZone design utilizes every square inch for uninterrupted entertainment possibilities,” the release stated. “Two distinct lounge areas, the spacious U-shape to starboard and the portside divan, offer versatile spaces for lunch, basking in the sun or enjoying a soothing sunset cruise. The electrically actuated aft cockpit table with filler cushion can be raised or lowered to your preference, ready for any activity you and your guests may choose.”
