Florida Powerboat Club Reschedules Tampa Poker Run

Forced to cancel the original April dates for its Tampa Bay Poker Run, the Florida Powerboat Club has reset the event for September 24-28. An email announcing the poker-run reboot will be sent to FPC club members today, and a registration page for the event should be on the Pompano Beach, Fla., outfit’s website next week, according to club president Stu Jones.

“We have moved the entire event to those dates with the same hotels, the same venues and the same facilities,” he said. “Our Tampa Bay event has become so popular since we moved it two years ago to the downtown area.”

Heading into its tenth year, the Tampa Bay happening had 40 boats registered and was on track to attract 60 boats, according to Jones, before he was forced to postpone it. With so many early season events being scrubbed or rescheduled—the FPC alone had five runs that fell into those categories—he believes the Tampa Bay event could see a record-setting fleet.

“It’s kind cool in that the day after we move off the docks the IBEX show will be moving in and opening later that week,” said Jones. “And the Race World Offshore even in Clearwater (Fla.) is scheduled for the same weekend as our Tampa event as well, and that’s just right down the road.”
