Gathering images for upcoming 2017 Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships preview stories, we came across this Pete Boden gem of Performance Boat Center/Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast during a practice session before last year’s three-race event. And from the blue of the water to the green of the palm trees, it reminded us why Key West is—and always will be—the most spectacular venue in offshore powerboat racing.

As even casual offshore racing fans know, the Performance Boat Center cockpit crew of driver Myrick Coil and throttleman John Tomlinson claimed the Superboat-class world championship last year, and they have every intention of defending their title this year. But to make it happen, they’ll have to take on WHM Motorsports—their toughest competitor during the regular season—and a slew of other teams manned by capable racers.

Though covering the Key West Worlds is a lot like covering the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout—lots of work with a bit of hard play thrown in—for us, we couldn’t ask for a better working environment. The photo above reminded us that for several days each year we get to call paradise our office.
