Fans attending Roar Offshore in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., the final event of the six-race American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series (Oct. 10-14), will get a long look at one of the more-unusual paceboats in offshore racing history. The event organizers have secured the first twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engine-powered 27-foot Excalibur triple tube pontoon offering from Avalon Pontoon Boats, an event sponsor, to pace several races. With 250 dealers across the United States and Canada, the company—led by CEO Jim Wolf—reportedly is the third largest pontoon boat manufacturer in the world.

Based in Alma, Mich., Avalon is teaming up with dealer WMF Watercraft and Marine to bring the 27-footer to the event. A well-known member of the high-performance powerboating community in Southwest Florida, Bill Forenski owns the multi-brand Delaware-based dealership.
The boat also will be available for demo rides in the wet pits, according to a press release from Roar Offshore.
Said Roar Offshore president Tim Hill, “Having a major boat manufacturer like Avalon make their national debut at Roar Offshore speaks volumes for our race site and the Fort Myers area.”
