Though various production and parts supply issues delayed the release of the Checkmate 26 Convincor beyond its planned spring 2012 release date—speedonthewater.com first reported on the upcoming new model in June 2011—the first 26-footer has been finished and is headed to a dealer in Montreal, Canada. That’s according to Doug Smith, the owner of the Bucyrus, Ohio, sportboat company.
“The second 26 is out of the mold, and the third is in lamination,” said Smith. “We have eight orders for it already.
“We just took an order for one that will have a classic, red-stripe Cigarette-style paint job,” said Smith. “We’re very pleased with the response so far.”
Interior details of the 26 Convincor include Checkmate logos on the backs of the bolsters for the driver and co-pilot.
With a 380-hp MerCruiser 8.2 Mag engine providing the power, the first model reportedly reached 70 mph. Price for the 26 Convincor, without a trailer, will range from $75,000 to $80,000 depending on power and options.
