FB Marine Group Head To Pull Double Duty At SBI Nationals

The third contest of the 2018 Super Boat International season, this weekend’s National Championships in Clearwater, Fla., will see Randy Sweers of FB Marine Group competing in two classes. As expected, Sweers, who co-owns the multi-location, full-service powerboat dealership headquartered in Pompano Beach, Fla, with his wife, Kim, will campaign his 40-foot MGI Digital Technology/Konica-Minolta-backed MTI catamaran in the Superboat class. But Sweers also will step into the Stock-class ranks in a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran running under the FB Marine Group/Lumberton Offroad banner.

Randy Sweers will join Bryan Marquard in the cockpit of this 32-foot Doug Wright Stock-class catamaran for the upcoming SBI National Championships.

“I have teamed up with my longtime friend Bryan Marquardt (the owner of Lumberton Offroad) from Beaumont, Texas,” said Sweers. “Bryan is no stranger to catamarans as he’s owned many over the years that he purchased from me. He’s also a former motocross racer, so I think he’s going to pick up the offshore racing very quickly.”

Sweers described the Stock-class campaign and cockpit paring as a “bucket-list item” for Marquardt, who will drive the 32-footer with Sweers on the throttles. He also said they are planning to test and practice before the Clearwater race.

“Bryan has had a lot of seat time with me over the years in various catamarans and he’s a quick learner, so hopefully the learning curve will be fairly quick,” said Sweers. “We know this is a very competitive class—just like the Superboat class that I race in—but hopefully we can go out there, have some fun, get around the track safely and try to get in the top three. That would be a great achievement for us.”

Driver Glen Hibbard, another Texan, will again join Sweers in the cockpit, of the Superboat-class MTI in Clearwater. Sweers and Hibbard have not finalized their plans for SBI Key West Offshore World Championships in November.

“We’re going to see how we do in Clearwater,” said Sweers. “Then we will make a decision on Key West.”
