Electric Vintage-Style Sportboat/Launch Coming To Miami

canadianelectricboat

Frequent visitors to this website know that electric powerboats with two-figure speeds tend to fly below the speedonthewater.com radar. But the Bruce 22 from the Canadian Electric Boat Company definitely caught our eyes thanks to its “classic design reminiscent of the antique and classic launches of yesteryear.” And it’s coming to Miami.

For those in search of something a little different—and a trip to Miami’s Collins Avenue will all of its South Beach delights—the 22-footer will be on display next week in the Yachts Miami Beach Electric Boat Pavilion. The annual Yachts Miami Beach event runs concurrently (but under different management) with the Miami International Boat Show Feb. 16-20 on Virginia Key. (Tickets to the events are sold separately.)

The Bruce 22 tops out at a blistering 41 mph. Maximum run time on a single charge is eight hours and, according to a press release from the company, “boaters can enjoy a full day on the water for approximately 50 cents a charge.” The boat’s UQM Technologies electric propulsion system includes a Panasonic battery bank and a closed circuit, water-cooled, permanent magnet motor with digital controllers.

The Bruce 22 is available in five- and eight-passenger interior configurations. Pricing was not included in the release.
