With one V42 center console delivered to a customer in Miami and three orders for the new model to fill, Marine Technology, Inc. of Wentzville, Mo., reportedly is booked through October with orders for the 42-footer. Once those boats are complete, the company will build it’s own “demo” model to take to events around the country in 2014.

“What people don’t realize is that the prototype 42 that was at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout last year was a finished hull with a plywood deck,” said Tim Gallagher, MTI’s sales and marketing director. “The first finished product, the boat now in Miami, is a world away from the prototype. It’s also a world away from all of the other center consoles out there.

Said Gallagher: “The first finished product is a world away from the prototype.”

“There are so many cool things MTI did with the boat, “ One of them was the light bar we built into the top with LEDs from Rigid Industries. It’s not like the typical ‘spotlight.’ When you turn it on, you can see channel markers three miles ahead.”

Although the first V42 and the three currently scheduled for production have been ordered with outboard engines, the 42-footer can be outfitted with stern-drive propulsion packages.

“Randy Scism (the founder and owner of MTI) designed the boat specifically so it could take outboards or stern-drives,” said Gallagher. “We have a proposal out right now for one with twin (Mercury Racing) 1100s.”

Gallagher said the company’s biggest challenge now with the V42 is public exposure. To that end, he plans to have the first one—the owner graciously will loan it to MTI—at two events this summer: the Offshore Super Series Lake of the Ozarks Race June 7-9 in Missouri and the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run July 18-20 in Georgia.

“People really need to see the boat and ride in it to understand how different it is,” said Gallagher. “And we need to get it out there as much as we can.”
